I imagine there must be only a very, very few men in the world, that I should like to marry; and of those few, it is ten to one I may never be acquainted with one; or if I should, it is twenty to one he may not happen to be single, or to take a fancy to me. Anonymous
About This Quote

This quote is from Jane Austen’s novel, "Pride and Prejudice." It is a humorous, but also a sad and true statement. Jane Austen was a woman who had no idea of what life would be like, and she was right to be cautious about putting her heart out there to be broken. When we love someone we hope for the best, even if we know the odds are against us. Sometimes we can get lucky and find that one person who loves us back.

However, many people don’t get to find that one person they could spend their lives with. This quote shows that even though we may not get married or live together forever, we still appreciate it when someone does love us.
